Who Was Alan Turing?

Alan Turing was born in 1912 in England. From a young age, he showed he was super good at solving really tough math problems. He was like a human computer, but way smarter!

Turing's Amazing Ideas

Turing had this super cool idea about a machine that could do any calculation. We now call it a "Turing machine." It's like the grandparent of today's computers. Without Turing's idea, we might not have the amazing tech we have today.

Cracking the Enigma Code

During World War II, the Germans used a secret code machine called Enigma to send messages. These messages were super important for the war. Turing and his team were like secret agents, working to crack this code. And guess what? They did it! Their work helped the Allies win the war.

The Sad Side of the Story

Turing was gay, which means he loved someone of the same gender. Back then, this was illegal in England. In 1952, he got caught, and instead of celebrating his genius, the government punished him. He was given a choice: go to jail or take some pills that would change who he was. He chose the pills, and they made him very sick.

In 1954, Alan Turing died, and it was a big loss for the world. He was only 41 years old.

Why Many People Haven't Heard of Him

  1. Secrecy: Much of Turing's work was top secret during the war, so it couldn't be talked about for a long time.
